Boundless oceans

“If you want to build a ship, don’t summon people to buy wood, prepare tools, distribute jobs, and organize the work, rather teach people the yearning for the wide, boundless ocean.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Do you remember the future we were going to have?  In Arthur C Clarke’s dreams by 2001, we were going to have wheeled space stations with Pan American shuttle access to it for ordinary middle class people.  A moonbase, humans traveling around the solar system, a computer that goes nuts and kills everyone. Okay, maybe we don’t want that last part.

Where did that go?

Many of us assumed the Government would create this future for us.

I’m a big believer that our Government is by the people and FOR the people.  The Government space program is percieved as being for big contractors and for itself.  It does not matter if this is true or not, it’s how people see it.  A Government that is FOR it’s citizens should be enabling it’s people to create opportunities in that environment.  Instead, it’s a closed and somewhat elite system.

Hope is not lost on the Science Fiction future we once knew. It just took a 40 year detour.

The universe around us may actually be limitless.  It holds countless opportunities.

Our future is now our future again.

Peter Diamandis(@peterdiamandis) believes.

Do you?
